| New Sat Nav system for Lorries |
There is currently research and development being undertaken for a Sat Nav system that issues drivers information about the suitability of the roads for the size of vehicle being driven. This is essential for HGV drivers, who are often being guided into unsuitable areas and roads by conventional Sat Nav systems. |
| The ease of use and convenience of Sat Nav’s has resulted in drivers relying on the devices, in some cases this causes drivers to follow the directions from the devices whilst ignoring signs and discarding maps, which indicated the suitability of certain roads. |
A system that would re-route Heavy Goods Vehicles, to more appropriate roads would be welcomed by all concerned. The issue has been raised by MP’s in the house of commons, with several complaining that low bridges are being damaged on a regular basis due to this problem. |
